Where Is Sandblasting Used?

Anadolu Kumlama

Sandblasting is a surface treatment method used in various industries and applications. It is used to clean, smooth or matt the surface of a material, or to help materials such as paint, coatings or adhesives grip the surface. Here are some of its common uses:

1. Metalworking: Sandblasting is widely used to remove contaminants such as rust, corrosion, paint, coatings or scale from metal surfaces. It is also preferred for roughening or matting metal surfaces.

2. Automotive industry: In the automotive sector, many components such as body parts, chassis, wheels and engine parts are sandblasted. This is done to remove old paint layers, prepare the surface and improve paint adhesion.

3. Shipbuilding and repair: In the marine sector, sandblasting is often used to clean ship hulls of rust, corrosion and deposits left by marine organisms. This process increases the durability of ship paints and improves the performance of underwater components.

4. Woodworking: Sandblasting can be used to clean, shape or roughen wooden surfaces. It can be applied especially to products such as wooden furniture, doors and windows, or to wooden floors.

5. Glass processing: Sandblasting is used to matt, pattern or clean glass surfaces. This is done to achieve an aesthetic appearance on glass products or to create special designs.

6. Construction and restoration: Sandblasting can be used to clean the surfaces of building materials such as concrete, stone or brick, or to restore their original appearance. In restoration projects, it can also be used for work such as renewing the facades of historic buildings or repairing stone sculptures.

Sandblasting is also used in many other applications besides those mentioned above, especially where surface preparation, cleaning and roughening are needed.
